  • ADHD Pride and Gay Pride: An Open Discussion

    in Health

Being gay with ADHD in a heterosexual world can be challenging, as it can be difficult to find acceptance and understanding from those around you. It can also be difficult to navigate the social and cultural expectations of a heterosexual world, as well as the added challenge of managing ADHD symptoms. This is why we are re-releasing this open discussion with two women who both are gay and have ADHD. One is out of “the closet” about both being gay and having ADHD, while the other is not. In this episode of Attention Talk Radio, the discussion reveals the pros and cons of disclosure and the real-life stories of our guests as they prepare for Gay Pride Month.

The Healing Power of the Doctor-Patient Relationship

    in Health

In this episode, Dr. David Hanscom talks with world renowned surgeon and best-selling author, Bernie Sigel, MD. He shares stories that illustrate the importance of the doctor-patient relationship. He stresses the key role of understanding the patient’s story – their life situation, challenges, motivations and fears to the healing process. He expresses his belief that listening to the patient and helping them tap into their innate ability to heal is the real business of medicine.
Bernie S. Siegel, MD, is a well-known proponent of integrative and holistic approaches to healing that heal not just the body but also the mind and soul.  He attended Colgate University and studied medicine at Cornell University Medical College. His surgical training took place at Yale–New Haven Hospital, West Haven Veterans Hospital, and the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. In 1978 Bernie pioneered a new approach to group and individual cancer therapy called Exceptional Cancer Patients (ECaP), which utilized patients’ drawings, dreams, and feelings, and he broke new ground in facilitating important patient lifestyle changes and engaging the patient in the healing process. He is the best-selling author of Love, Medicine & Miracles and The Art of Healing.  For more information, visit: berniesiegelmd.com.

  • Part 30: Close Up Radio Welcomes Back Dr. Victoria Mondloch

    in Health

Milwaukee, WI — While there are many factors like diet and exercise that can influence a healthy weight, there are other factors that come into play, particularly for women of a certain age. Underlying hormonal imbalances can make it difficult to stay within goals and even wreak havoc with the body.
According to Victoria J Mondloch, a foresighted doctor and subject matter expert on hormones, there is one resounding answer to the question how to stay in fighting shape? Mondloch says Collagen can help us better stave off Fibromyalgia, Arthritis, edema, and many other inflammatory occurrences. She also knows that Collagen is key in keeping our eyes and skin free of airborne toxins. Collagen, she notes, is also a way to improve the way oxygen is absorbed and distributed throughout body tissues and thus, improve brain function in older folks.. And Collagen can even help people look and feel about 15 years younger.
Victoria Mondloch has appeared often on Close Up Radio, discussing different health issues and aspects of her work as a practitioner and author. She has written two top-selling books and numerous articles about hormone balancing and its benefits to women’s health at various stages of life. She has also been a source of medical wisdom and keen attention for patients in the Midwest who have diagnoses and concerns that the other doctors may have waved off. Victoria Mondloch is also her own best testimonial, as she has great skin, youthful energy, and is free of menopausal plagues. all despite her true age.

  • Healthy Swaps

    in Health

With a few simple swaps, you can help live your best life while managing your diabetes. Our experts offer straightforward, simple, and fun swap ideas for drinks, medications, self-care, and fashion. Plus, we share style tips and words of inspiration to help you maintain a healthy habit.
Developing these habits isn’t always easy. Adapting to a new routine can be tricky, and it’s often tempting to want to return to old ways if we don’t see immediate results. One of the biggest mistakes people make when forming a new habit is taking on too much too quickly.  Focus on what's working in your diabetes self-care plan before overhauling diabetes management. Instead of decluttering the entire house, why not focus on one room or closet? Why not focus on the calories you drink rather than everything you eat?  If you want to eat healthier, try replacing one dessert daily with a piece of fruit rather than cutting out sugar completely. If you're going to get into hiking, start with a walk at lunchtime. Setting small goals you can achieve will help keep you motivated along the way.
Guests include Catherine Schuller, Poet Lorraine Brooks, Patricia Addie-Gentle RD, CDCES, MaryAnn Horst Nicolay, MEd, NDTR, and Mama Rose Marie. Hosted by Mr. Divabetic.

  • ADHD and a Gap Year: Recovering from the Trauma

    in Health

Not all ADHD students are ready for college after high school. Each student's readiness for college depends on their individual academic and social skills, as well as their ability to manage their ADHD symptoms. If a student with ADHD is not ready for college after high school, they may benefit from taking a gap year or taking classes at a local community college. To provide more insight on this subject, we are re-releasing our interview with Marie Paxson, former president of CHADD, who relates the good, the bad, and the ugly based on her experience as a parent of a son who took a gap year and why a gap year can be beneficial. Join us for this insightful episode.
